Purity, enlightenment, impermanence

The lotus is born in the mud, crosses troubled waters and blooms into the light. Its ability to close and submerge itself each evening, only to be reborn immaculate the following morning, embodies the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
Despite each immersion in these dark waters, the mud never manages to leave a trace on its petals.

Fun fact: The lotus is emblematic of Buddhism (the lightness and purity of the flower as it rises, like the Buddha himself) and Hinduism (an attribute of deities such as Vishnu, and a symbol of the blossoming of the soul). In ancient Egypt, it represented creation and the rising sun. Its petals are naturally hydrophobic — water and mud simply slide off, leaving no trace. And its seeds can remain dormant for over a thousand years, and still bloom again.
