Nicknamed the daughter of the wind, legend has it that she came into being through the mingling of Aphrodite's tears and the blood of Adonis, who during a hunt was mortally wounded in the leg by a charging boar.

She grows only in isolated woodlands, often in early spring before the leaves of the trees steal too much of her light. It is also said that she trembles at the slightest gust of wind and that she is the home of fairies!

NB: Other versions of the story of Adonis and Aphrodite tell that it was actually a very beautiful flower called the "Autumn Adonis" that came into being from this mingling of blood and tears, a flower of the buttercup family, close to the anemone.
